Noosa through
the years ...
Early records
show that Captain Cook and explorer Matthew Flinders sailed past
Noosa in 1770 and 1801 respectively. With presumably other things
on their minds, they did not stop for a holiday.
Visitors to
Noosa these days include prime ministers, premiers, ambassadors,
Hollywood stars and tycoons, plus a whole lot of down-to-earth Aussie
holidaymakers and their families.

The
word Noosa comes from aboriginal dialects and means "shade"
or " shadows", reflecting the dark green forests which still
shelter our hilltops and valley. Early settlers came to seek timber
or to farm. Nowadays many settlers, come from the cooler southern
states, to join the tourist industry. |
| Standards
of architecture, conservation and development are very high, in an
area which attracts more than its fair share of artists and writers.
Proud of Noosa's many features of natural beauty, residents have prevented
any development higher than the tree line. With so many of the world's
holiday ,resorts suffering from overcrowding and exploitation, the
preservation of the unique Noosa environment ensures happy holidays
for those premiers, ambassadors, and down-to-earth Aussie holidaymakers. |
